Acai Berry may be one of the healthiest berries you can eat . That is according to some health experts! But whether it is THE healthiest or it’s just super healthy, it is definitely a berry you should consider adding to your diet on a regular basis.
Acai is an indigenous berry found in the rain forests of the Amazon. This fruit has been proclaimed for hundreds of years as a healing, immune-stimulating, energy-boosting fruit. Research reveals this antioxidant-rich berry may help suppress and repair oxidative damage, promote heart health, increase energy levels, aid weight loss, aid digestion, improve skin appearance, boost the immune system, improve mental function, encourage a healthy libido and are anti-ageing.
Acai is high in fibre and flavonoids (heart protection), has 42x more antioxidants than blueberries, is a great source of vitamin E to assist with anti-ageing, contains over 50 essential nutrients for general well-being and the benefit of being such a high fibre fruit is that it can help regulate blood sugar levels.
You can use Acai berries in your smoothies and smoothie bowls. As always I suggest you buy organic so you always know you’re getting a good product.
I used Acai powder (freeze dried Acai pulp), but you can also use and buy frozen Acai – use what you can source.
Acai Smoothie Bowl Recipe
1 ripe banana
½ cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
1 tablespoon Acai powder
1 tablespoon chia seeds
¼ cup natural yoghurt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
- Place all ingredients into your blender and blend until a smooth thick consistency. If you are planning on decorating your smoothie bowl you need the smoothie to be a little on the thick side. If it’s too runny try adding some more banana and/or chia seeds to thicken it.
- Pour smoothie into a bowl.
- Top with sliced fruit, coconut, chia seeds, cacao nibs, goji berries…. Or anything at all that you like.
